Harborside HealthcareJuly 24, 2007 To whom it may concern: As Activity Director of Harborside Healthcare, I highly recommend clowning for a therapeutic, good humor experience for residents who have been otherwise difficult to reach. A clown usually brings forth positive and happy memories of childhood. Our experience with Jamdealie D. Light has been "delightful" and a most positive interaction for our residents. Barbara Mascio is familiar with the needs of nursing home patients as she works as a volunteer guardian for a nursing home resident here and is a regular visitor who is sensitive to human needs. She knows the importance of smiles and laughter for a population who have multiple physical, mental health and/or social problems. Mrs. Mascio is not only a clown in character, but also a very caring person who is presently using her skills for a study in the response of clients to therapeutic clowning. She is hoping to use her program to increase response of difficult patients in categories such as socialization, eye contact, verbalization, reminiscing and of course, smiles and laughter.

Jamdealie is a colorful and welcome sight in our facility. Photographs of a resident with the clown make a wonderful mementos of happy faces and happy times. We are proud to have her added to our regular programming schedule.
